TANEYTOWN LIONS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL MEETING MINUTES

February 11, 2008

 

Present:          Jeff Bruchey, Sherri Lewelling, Jeffrey Aaron, John Rill, Jeff Engel, Dan McMahon, Perry Jones, Derrick Miller, Albert Angell Jr, Teresa Angell, Tim Copenhaver, Wendell White, Richard Rosas, Chris Smith, Brian Fox, Angie Pickett, Randy Bowers, John Gill, Dan Lewelling, Michael Crouse, Shawn Atanasoff, Larry Haines, Mike Stoner, Brent Greenup, and Bob Mitchell

 

Jeff Bruchey called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

  1. Larry Haines read minutes from January 14, 2008. Motioned to accept and Danny Lewelling seconded the motion.  Majority approved.

 

  1. Financial Report – The balance in checking account is $20,333.44. Registration – 3rd day – approximately $11,590.00.  Danny L made a motion to approve financial report and Dan seconded the motion.  Majority approval.

 

  1. Dugouts – They are ready to paint at Field Maintenance days in March.  Keys for dugouts will be discussed at next meeting.

 

  1. Basket Bingo – March 1st, 7pm at American Legion.  Sheila needs to know who has bingo tickets and how many are sold.  Sherri will make cream of crab soup, and baseball league will pay for crabmeat.  We will need a bingo caller.  Who will be there to help?  All board members should be there to help between 4-4:30pm.  Asked Bob Mitchell to put sign at park regarding Basket Bingo, just give him the information and he will see it gets posted.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

  1. Late fee discussion.  We need to have a hard cutoff date. 

Baseball:

Shetland – 50 kids, 5 teams, accepting 5 more kids

Pinto – 39 kids, 4 teams, accepting 9 more kids

Mustang – 43 kids, 4 teams, accepting 5 more kids

Bronco – 39 kids, 4 teams, accepting 5 more kids

13/14 – 20 to 24, 2 teams, accepting 3-5 more kids

18U(Wendall) – 9 kids, 1 team, accepting 4 more

            Softball:

                        8U – 14 kids, 1 team, plus 1

                        10U – 22 kids, 2 teams, accepting 2 more

                        12U – 26 kids, 2 teams, no more kids

                        16U – 4 kids, may join with 18U

                        18U – 3 interested

 

  1. We need more banner sponsors – only have 5.  Dan has two more ($300).

 

  1. Texas Roadhouse fundraiser – make $10.50.

 

  1. Tastefully Simple fundraiser – waive $25 tent setup table at Pitch, Hit, & Run.  She will sell and proceeds will go to organization.

 

  1. Plaques for Lions member will go on dugouts – wording given to us by Lions Club.  Jeff B. went to graphic store for plaque design and will take samples to Lions Club for approval.  Ceremony for plaques, 1 field for Lions members and 1 field for Town council.  Also we are getting prices for 4x5 aluminum signs with baseball/softball logo on each field.

 

  1. Richard Rosas will be in charge of the sport section for Pitch, Hit, & Run.  Aquafina will be sponsoring Pitch, Hit, & Run –April 12th, rain date April 19th.

 

  1. Mustang tryouts cancelled on the 9th and rescheduled for the 23rd

 

  1. Charles Carroll Baseball wants to take our Taneytown Pinto and combine with them for games/tournaments.  Chris wants to scrimmage some this year and maybe next year make full game schedule.

 

  1. Insurance – our kids and coaches are covered where ever they go, plus including traveling.

 

  1. Main softball field – we are losing use because a new well needs to be dug and it will be too close to the field.  Possibility for switching field around – in negotiating.  This will be done according to Bob Mitchell, but we don’t know when.

 

  1. Field on the hill was re-done by town.  Needs conditioner and we will also condition ‘switched around’ softball field.  Applying for grant.

 

  1. Mason Dixon – no rule change.  Emmittsburg was given one week for decision.  Code of Conduct forms will be given to coaches.  Rich Lackey is now the coordinator for Mason Dixon.

 

  1. Equipment – bring to meeting a list of what is needed.  Jeff Engel is the only person who will be ordering.  Equipment pickup will be by a couple of people.

 

  1. Resumes need to be handed in to coordinators immediately.

 

           

The meeting was adjourned at 8:25pm.  Sherri nominated and Angie seconded. The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 10th, 2008 at 7:00pm at the Taneytown Senior Center.
